We at the Living Legacy Center provide holistic assistance to Veterans and their families that are located in the CYFAIR area. We can connect you with some of the many local resources that will best meet your needs. We are here to guide you through the process and help if there's any roadblocks along the way.

The first step is to order your military records, using Form SF180.

Post 9/11

Post-9/11 GI Bill:

  • Must have 90 days of aggregate active duty service after Sept. 10, 2001;
  • Still on active duty;
  • Honorably discharged Veteran;
  • Discharged with a service-connected disability after 30 days.

The Marine Gunnery Sergeant John David Fry Scholarship (Fry Scholarship) provides benifits for:

  • Children and surviving spouses;
  • Servicemembers died in the line of duty while on active duty after September 10, 2001.

Pre 9/11

Montgomery GI Bill Active Duty, Also Called Chapter 30: Receive up to 36 months of education benefits.​ 10 years to use your MGIB benefits, but the time limit can be fewer.

  • You must have served active duty for 2 years to be eligible
  • You must have an honorable discharge
  • AND you have a high school diploma or GED or in some cases 12 hours of college credit
  • AND you meet the requirements listed here.

Vietnam Era

Veterans Educational Assistance Program (VEAP): Used for a college degree, certifications, vocational or technical training and much more.

  • Entered service for the first time between Jan. 1, 1977, and June 30, 1985;
  • Opened a contribution account before April 1, 1987
  • Voluntarily contributed from $25 to $2,700;
  • Completed your first period of service and were discharged or released from service under conditions other than dishonorable;
  • If you are currently on active duty and wish to receive VEAP benefits, you must have at least three months of contributions available.

WWII Era & Prior

Aid and Attendance: Can help pay for care in the home, Nursing Home or Assisted Living facility. A Veteran is eligible for up to $1,788 per month, while a surviving spouse is eligible for up to $1,149 per month.

Veterans and survivors who are eligible for a VA pension and require the aid and attendance of another person, or are housebound, may be eligible for additional monetary payment. These benefits are paid in addition to a monthly pension, and they are not paid without eligibility to Pension.

This is a "Pension Benefit" and IS NOT dependent upon service-related injuries for compensation.
